Whether you prefer to laze on a quiet and peaceful beach, or to experience one that is full of attractions and activities, North Carolina will not disappoint. It even has the best beach in the United States, according to coastal experts. Ocracoke Lifeguarded Beach, with an undeveloped coast, charming village and golden sand, has been named "the perfect escape." Ocracoke itself is an incredible experience. It is an island which was mainly isolated from the rest of the world until recently. Here, there are countless opportunities for walking or cycling the tree-lined, shady streets. There is a wide variety of different beach communities here and activities are endless, from windsurfing to bird watching.
North Carolina has a particularly unique climate, history, geography and culture and the state`s top attractions reflect this. An example of one of these is Biltmore House, the United States` largest private home, in an estate of eight thousand acres among the mountains close to Asheville. It is a National Historic Landmark and one of America`s most visited residences, enclosing a renowned winery, beautiful walking trails, lush gardens, a four star hotel and even some shops. Cherokee Village and the Qualla Boundary is a totally different kind of attraction. A band of Cherokee Indians made this their homeland and museums, authentic Indian villages and shopping is enjoyed here by thousands every year.
